Gallbladder stone surgery, also known as cholecystectomy, is a medical procedure performed to remove gallstones or the gallbladder itself when gallstones cause significant pain or other complications. Gallstones are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in the gallbladder, a small organ located under the liver. Gallstones can cause a range of symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. There are two main types of gallbladder surgery: Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: This is the most common and minimally invasive approach. In a laparoscopic procedure, several small incisions are made in the abdomen. A tiny camera (laparoscope) and specialized surgical instruments are inserted through these incisions. The surgeon uses the camera to visualize the gallbladder and then removes it or extracts the gallstones. This method typically results in a quicker recovery time, less pain, and smaller scars compared to open surgery.
