ANTI REFLUX SURGERY
Anti-reflux surgery, also known as fundoplication, is a surgical procedure performed to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or chronic acid reflux. GERD is a condition in which stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, leading to symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, and difficulty swallowing. When conservative treatments like lifestyle modifications and medication fail to provide sufficient relief, anti-reflux surgery may be considered. Here's an overview of this surgical procedure: Indications: Anti-reflux surgery is typically recommended when GERD symptoms are severe, frequent, or not adequately controlled by medication. It may also be considered when complications of GERD, such as esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus, or strictures, are present.
